Pre-heating: The operation of heating metal to a predetermined temperature before engaging in actual welding; pre-heating prepares metal to make it more receptive to welding.
Post Weld Heat Treating: Relieving post-weld metal stresses using the process of heat treating. Heat Treating is a method of treating metal to reduce residual stresses, achieved by increasing the temperature of a metal to a specified value and holding that temperature for a specified length of time.
